My JB-Jinny's Garden is still on the wall where it was two weeks ago, but I have made some progress on quilting the 1892 Rondure.

General quilting rules are that you should have consistent density of stitching throughout the quilt, but I'm not sure I want to do any more. Additional thoughts have included doing some 'motif' quilting in the borders and center elements that use the border print, but those 'beams' just keep going 'Leave Me Alone'. They are popping on their own almost as if it was trapunto'd but I didn't....so...what do you think?
Today I'm working on my Challenge #2 for the McCalls Quilt Design Star Contest...but nothing to reveal until everyone sees it on August 17 and the voting begins!

ReplyDeleteHow's the span for the batting? I'd wonder if that would be a problem after a washing or two. What about sparing linear quilting that follows the lines of the beams? (like a single line running through the middle of the beams, point-to-point - or at most two lines, perhaps kissing the corners of the middle squares of the beams, or maybe running parallel to the long beam seams with the blue, about 1/3 toward the midline squares?) Just brainstorming, haven't really visualized those.
ReplyDeleteBut I think you're right - the beams need to be very sparingly quilted so they really pop structurally.
Wow! Beautiful! What about those "globe lines", that maybe would make it look even more 3-D? Just a though! How cool about Ireland!!
