Planes, Trains and Automobiles #PTAbloghop - featuring #IslandBatik fabrics coming to a local quilt shop near you, including my own!
Today we're going to Georgia via flying geese!
I think the photo to the right is about half of the collection. A gorgeous array of values in the orange and green families.
Today I'm sharing a test pattern that was made with the Sweet Georgia Peach fabrics. I got my mom involved to test this pattern when she was with me at Christmas. When she had to leave before it was finished, I picked up the pieces and realized even though it was nice to work with one block at a time, it just made for too many unnecessary seams, so I revised it and had another friend test it again. When I made the pattern with the intended fabric (a new line being released at Spring market in May 2016) I evolved it even further...so you'll have to stay tuned for how the pattern really turns out!
I'm calling this Geese on the Run
These test versions are using 5 values of a single color. With the 'magic' method of making flying geese, I can make 4 at a time. This design uses all sets created! No waste.
Test #1
This runner is quilted on my Gammill with the Curly Maple pantograph (hand guided) from #UrbanElementz with #Aurifil Poly Color 5511. Thermore batting. For table runners, I especially like using Thermore because it shows the quilting, but lets glassware sit flat.
The 5 geese values have been intentionally chosen to 'fade' into the background.
This time the geese are some from light to dark since the background is darker. It might also have worked to do two different colors; one color with 3 values; and a second color similar to the background with two values.
The backing is a flannel wideback I have available for sale in the shop (I can ship). It is a greyish-greenish pattern and just fit this beautifully. I quilted this, hand guided, on my #Gammill long-arm with the Forest Floor pantograph from #UrbanElementz. 80/20 batting. Signature variegated Grassy Green thread.
This design could work nicely as a bed runner too.
I'm excited to share some of this collection with you.
I've got 3 bundles to give away. Each bundle has 2 pieces of all 10 fabrics plus an additional fat quarter--all from the Sweet Georgia Peach line. The 10 fabrics are what was used for the geese in the two runners above. You could come up with your own combination or create something original. So, share and share a like with your friends that this giveaway is available! Please leave me a comment below about whether or not you prefer lap, bedsize quilts or enjoy doing a runner like this, check out my facebook page (consider 'following' it with a 'see first' in your newsfeed), consider 'following' me on this blog and/or joining my about monthly newsletter. Thanks!
I will soon have 'Sweet Georgia Peach Stacks' = (2) 10" squares of 20 fabrics = (40) 10" squares available for purchase as a set. Happy to take pre-orders $41 - plus applicable tax and shipping, just indicate your interest in your comment and be sure your email is included in your profile and I can invoice you via paypal or you can call the studio with your order and credit card.

I love your table runner with those subtle colors!
ReplyDeleteMost often I prefer to make big quilts, but it is nice in-between to make a small project, also.
I prefer smaller projects like your awesome runner
ReplyDeleteI prefer making lap-sized and baby quilts. Thanks for sharing your lovely tablerunner.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt runner design!! I like to make quilted pieces that go as big as a lap quilt... Anything larger just takes too darn long to hand quilt!!
ReplyDeletePretty fabric, I like lap and runners. Your runner is beautiful.
ReplyDeletepatsystitch@gvtc.com
I prefer lap size quilts. Full size are a bit big to hand quilt. I also make baby quilts (40" sq)
ReplyDeleteLove your runner. I prefer lap size and smaller projects. I do bedside versions about twice a year
ReplyDeleteI like to make all kinds of quilt sizes but I prefer an oversized lap quilt (my family are all talls :). Thanks for the generous giveaway.
ReplyDeletethat looks awesome! love the two different looks
ReplyDeleteI've made bed-sized quilts but don't have a longarm so they're difficult for me to quilt. Love to make lap-sized quilts and table runners. Easier and faster to quilt. Your table runner is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI probably make lap size quilts the most, but love making all sized quilts. Your table runner is very cute.
ReplyDeleteI love this fabric and your runner is so pretty. Since I love to sew, I like doing it all--from the smallest project to a full sized quilt. Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty table runner. I make small wall quilts the most because they are quicker and easier, but I do venture out to larger sizes like lap quilts too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful....fabrics, colors and design! Small projects right now are on my to do list. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table runner and I'm going to have to try that batting!
ReplyDeleteI have made many bed size quilts and I'm just finishing up my first lap quilt BUT table runners are my passion. I have made several for every holiday and they are my go to for gifts. Yours is lovely.
ReplyDeletei like the idea of doing lap size quilts, but somehow always make baby, twin, and king quilts.

Fun project. Love the different looks.
ReplyDeleteI usually do bed quilts, but if I want instant gratification I make table runners or table toppers.
ReplyDeleteI love the runner, and how you had the geese fading into the background. Great design. I do all sizes of quilts, but mostly lap, baby and table, because I don't have a long arm yet. (Don't enter me in drawing).
ReplyDeleteI prefer full sized quilts. I like doing smaller projects in between. Love your runner, thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI have done a few runners, but mostly have been making lap quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love your runners. I do all sizes of quilts. Mostly now it is largish couch quilts. Favorite bed size now is twin.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love bed quilts, I make mostly lap quilts and small projects. I give many of them as gifts and don't always know if somebody could use a bed quilt, or what would fit with their decor.
ReplyDeleteI like the size of a lap quilt. I love batiks! would love the chance to own some of this beautiful fabric.... sewfabrics@outlook.com
ReplyDeleteI love the way the triangles fade into the background.
ReplyDeleteI do mostly bedsize, starting to get into smaller projects. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLove it, can't decided which one I liked better! Looking forward to seeing the final version of the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI've done both full size bed quilts, double, king and table runners. I can't say I prefer one over the other, it usually depends on who it is for. I hope I can still be entered in the giveaway as I don't do facebook due to the time required and for personal reasons.
ReplyDeleteRosemary
Awesome table runner! Great use of the fabric!
ReplyDeleteLap size are my favorite because they are fast to do, but still provide good coverage if snuggling on the couch. However, I recently did a table runner and it was SUPER fast, so I may do more of those. Great idea to use leftovers from a larger project to incorporate some beautiful fabric and keep it useful!
ReplyDeleteI like to make lap size quilts. They don't take as long as a bed size quilt, so you can move on to the next project.
ReplyDeletekellam.susan@yahoo.com
Love your table runner and all those flying geese and the fabric is perfect. I prefer to make smaller projects - table runners, wall hangings, miniature quilts.
ReplyDeleteI like to make bed size quilts or baby/child size. Very attractive free motion quilting on your table runner.
ReplyDeleteI prefer full size quilts - although it takes me forever to make them!!
ReplyDeleteI love smaller projects - more chance that they will not turn into UFOs in the closet!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I am working on lap size quilts but I like to do smaller projects in between. Love the table runner. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the table runner, I love to do all sizes, lap, baby, twin, full, queen, King, and wall hanging, table runners. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLike your runner and of course "Sweet Georgia Peach" collection is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI prefer bed size quilts
ReplyDeletellamance@hotmail.com
My favorite things to make are twin-sized quilts, but when I get an idea I often make a mini or wall-quilt just so I can see it come to completion.
ReplyDeleteLately I have been making a lot of lap or twin sized quilts. But I do like to make runners, and your geese that fade into the distance it adorable.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be always doing bed size. I love to gift kids and grandkids.
ReplyDeleteI mostly make bigger quits, but do like an occasional table runner, that I can make in a day. That feels good after a 4-6 week project!
ReplyDeletecork@pa.rr.com
My quilts usually end up being bigger than I've planned. But small things you can finish quickly are fun too!
ReplyDeleteDmac5958ataoldotcom
Small quilts or i love table toppers......... happyness04431@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteIt's all baby to bed sized quilts at our house.
ReplyDeleteI love flying geese, and these fabrics make them soar! Love the toppers!
ReplyDeleteI am comfortable with all three sizes...depends on what I need at the time. Your table runner is fabulous. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI make all 3 sizes of quilts, but mostly bed size.
ReplyDeletemaureeneh52@hotmail.com
I usually make bed size quilts.
ReplyDeleteI like both kinds. When I get burned out on working on a larger quilt, I do a small quilt to rejuvenate me.
ReplyDeleteI guess I like both though it is wonderful to COMPLETE a smaller project in a shorter time frame. I loved seeing/reading how you design a pattern from the initial design to followups.
ReplyDeleteI do prefer creating table runners and small quilts like baby-size or wall-hangings. My attention loses focus on those big projects and want to move onto other things. Smaller is better for me! duchick at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI like to make lapsize quilts so that I can see the finished piece sooner
ReplyDeleteI enjoy making bed size, lap, and smaller projects. Sometimes I like quicker projects and at other times I like long term projects. Your table runners are great! Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like to make lap sized quilts because they make such nice gifts - something to snuggle in. Thanks for sharing your beautiful table runner photos! The peach and green colors are gorgeous together. And thanks for the gorgeous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIt depends on what I need at the time. I like the smaller projects because they're done faster, but I like the bigger also. Beautiful fabric!
ReplyDeleteI prefer smaller lol...Throw size has been largest project I have made so far. Have done Baby size, Wallhangings, and a few Runners too. Thanks for chance to win your give-a-way! :)
ReplyDeleteI like a lap size quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer smaller, quicker projects! Thanks and God bless! ILuvTheEucharist (at) aol.com
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in the Sweet Georgia Peach line. What a wonderful give-away. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteI make more lap or baby quilts than anything, because they make great gifts. However, I have recently started a couple of queen size quilts for my adult children.
I like to stick to making Lap quilts so much easier to hadle but runners are fun to make too.
ReplyDeleteA very creative design! The fabrics and colours you chose are perfect for it!
ReplyDeleteHey, Marlene...I like small projects like your lovely flying geese quilt. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI like larger than lap as I like to wrap them around me and snuggle.
ReplyDeleteI love making very big quilts...queen and king size. Next, I enjoy making runners. Lap size quilts are usually twin bed quilts in our house. LOL
ReplyDeleteI make smaller lap quilts for charity.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Peggy
peggy_verdongibbs@att.net
I prefer full quilts but I make them in pieces that I tnen quilt and join before binding.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quilts to make are baby quilts - I can use all the bright colors I wouldn't tend to use in a "decor" quilt. I have a collection of lap quilts in my family room, though, so that everyone can snuggle under one while they read or watch TV!
ReplyDeleteI always seemed to make king-size quilts, but then I thought maybe a wall hanging would be more fun and a bit quicker. I now have seasonal wall hangings that make me smile when I see them. Thanks for the draw.
ReplyDeleteI am a full size quilt lover. However, lately I have been making a lot of holiday table toppers and placemats. So I guess I am a large lover and a small maker!
ReplyDeleteI tend to make bed sized quilts and throws, but I have lately been experimenting with placemats.
ReplyDeleteI usually make lap sized quilts because I love to have them over me on the couch. I just made my first baby quilt, though, and it went so quickly that I might do another one!
ReplyDeleteI've made both size quilts. the smaller ones are easier to work with while machine quilting
ReplyDeleteI just finished a table runner today. I love that they are so quick. I've made a lot of lap quilts lately for charity purposes.
ReplyDeleteI like smaller projects and love the no waste flying geese method.
ReplyDeleteLove to make smaller items for a quicker gratification love the runner
ReplyDeleteI prefer lap and smaller bed quilts.
ReplyDeleteI like to make smaller quilts simply because they are easier for me to handle and I can see the outcome sooner. eyreka1@gmail dot com
