2024 Monthly Color Challenge - Hosted at Patterns by Jen

Join in the fun with this 2024 Monthly Color Challenge inspired by tropical fish.

I'll be the featured blogger in March, but plan to share my version of each block as we go through the year. The block pattern is free during each respective month, so stay up to date to capture the tutorials with each pattern that Jen will issue.

Interested in fabric bundles? Please contact me (all ways are on my website). There are several options to consider so I'm not pre-posting them in my on-line shop, but you're welcome to say YES! I want a moda Grunge or Northcott Toscana bundle that will work. Maybe you'd rather use batiks? Let's do it! At least for the 'blocks' --just a light/dark color for each month or a light color and a consistent background for all blocks. Setting fabrics can come later as you see the blocks come together. I've got a few ideas, but I'll be happy to work with you at the end again when you decide how you want to complete the assembly of the blocks.

Ordering off my website each color requires at least a 1/4 yd except for the grey. Minimum 3/8 yd for grey, so if ordering online 1/2 yd will be needed for the grey.

Here is what I've pulled together. The background will be the blue w/bubbles --sort of like in the water, right? And the other fabrics are going to be used as the 'light' or color in each block. These are batiks from my stash, so not something I can exactly replicate. I do have batiks in the shop, so if you'd like to work with batiks, I can put together a bundle of colors for that too.

My plan for sashings will be revealed later --but taking fabrics from what I can offer in the shop, so that will be available for you too.

Additional Supplies that might come in handy (limited quantities available here):

EeziGrip 6 1/2" square ruler

Sintra Entrada in Broken Glass collection

I participated in an IGPost-Hop featuring Broken Glass fabric collection, so thought I'd post it here on my blog as well.

"Broken Glass from Island Batik, designed for Kathy Engle for Swan Amity Sheridan of Swan Amity Studios is landing in stores this month!  To help launch this happy line of fabric, I have joined a group of innovative designers to bring you an exciting list of ideas for smaller projects that make use of this beautiful batik."

This particular quilt could be made as small or as large as you'd like--it is easily adaptable given the small block size. Just add more! I've used the line and a couple of blenders to mock up my Sintra Entrada quilt design. Patterns available on my website.

Here was my inspiration -- the entry way to the Castle in Sintra Portugal

Do you like it? You could add borders as well if you want it bigger.

Pink Flamingo used as binding and in sashings available here. Jelly Rolls of the collection also available.

Two secret commissions ...to be revealed next year.

NEW UNFINISHED - 2022
Hugs and Kisses - Cool Breeze from Free Spirit version - Options
I think I like this first one best, but the dark green is how I originally designed it ...but the fabric is greener vs. just dark from when I saw it digitally. I'm showing these other options from the collection that I have to work with. I won't have enough to do a proper 2" finish, but based on the golden ratio 1 1/4" should work ok. I think I'll use the dark blue for the binding.

Sneak peek at a 3-part pattern coming soon via the Country Register

OLD UFOs - Finished in 2022

AnglePlay Modern design
Basic block in 3 sizes
Ready to take a class?

The back is fun too! Scenes and wildflowers of Alaska.
