Started as a class from the Republic Quilt Guild, taught by Rae Salkeld. I went into the 'advanced' class which was taught up in Canada and enjoyed a couple of days working over the President's Day Weekend several years ago while my husband and I also celebrated our wedding anniversary, staying at the Noble House B&B which was a fantastic geothermal home. While I didn't exactly have a pattern, but a general principles to follow, I did have a few books to consider. I had my own opinions of course on how the braid should track around the panel and the panel starts at a particular size. Once I made a braid I then had a better idea of exactly how long it was going to be and how many colors would be needed for the lengths necessary. The large outer border fabric has eagles and images of Half Dome from Yosemite National Park. My cousin is definitely an 'outdoorsy' kind of guy and I thought this was just the right touch for his personal QOV.

Once Upon a Story ...Humpty Dumpty's Wall
Hard to believe 5 years! But here we are again, participating in Marian Pena's RAL, this year called "Once Upon a Story"
When I think of childhood stories, several come to mind, but the first image that came to mind that I'd want to put a pattern together for was Humpty Dumpty's wall. This design can be used as filler elements or as its own block. The pattern includes all of the sizes suggested for this RAL.

There are many other ways you could use this design, here is an example (inspired by a design from Ann Kelly) using old jeans and a fabric for the 'mortar'.
I actually have several 'brick' like fabrics ...make your own or pre-printed bricks.

Christmas Collection Blog Hop - Finale
On our last day on the blog hop, we're featuring the Christmas Friends Throw. This quilt uses the 'friendship star' block as it's primary focus.
Thermore batting and some custom quilting on this little 'mini' quilt which is just one block from Nancy's design.
Note: if you want to make the whole quilt, the last two cutting instructions aren't both 'white'; one set should be green. The result was this simple mug rug using all Island Batik fabrics that will be a
perfect gift for a friend.
And a tip: Half Square Triangles (HSTs) - once you sew both sides of the diagonal, cut down the center and then trim the triangle so that the seam lines hit 2.5". The sizes given, if you sew a perfect scant seam, should be correct--but if you oversize it to start with you'll need to trim it down or if your seam got too small you'll need to trim it down. If you oversize your seam, the square will be too small..so be careful!
You may have seen I also did the Mistletoe Magic Pillow earlier this week, but I really wanted to show you a project I did some time ago using the friendship star block.
While in temporary housing before moving to our current home, the guild I would be leaving had a block lotto of the Friendship Star. I made a couple of sets and won the drawing so ended up with even more. I made a few more to make up this quilt, worked in EQ to come up with a design and found various pine fabrics to use in the sashings, cornerstones and setting triangles in my stash and finally purchased fabric for the border. #electricquilt

The leftover border gave me this little runner using the 'one block wonder' technique with filler triangles to set them apart:
While looking for a picture of this last one, I found several other Christmas themed pieces I've made so thought I'd share them as part of this 'finale'.

Holly Berries in the Snow - out my back deck, a block lotto win from years ago required a few more to be made. I got inspired last Dec. when I needed some of the fabric curated for these 'extra' blocks, so cut out the blocks and was able to use the remaining fabrics for the next project.
I also taught a class late last year to make this table topper or tree skirt (add a slit).
...finally got it quilted last week and bound this week in time to show you!
I'm calling it Stars of the Season. This uses all Island Batik fabrics and was quilted with the Dancing Snowflakes pantograph design. I am a hand guided Gammill Opt+ quilter.
Lots of ideas for Christmas themed items that can be used around the house. I hope you're inspired!

Notice that the red and green have such similar values that they both can be used as the 'alternate' block to the light backgrounds. I did try to set the actual blocks with some symmetry. Some had fabrics that were the same motif but different colors.

Christmas Collection Blog Hop
Today I'm featuring Masterpiece Quilting's Christmas Collection Mistletoe Magic Pillow.
This is part of the 'lovely living room' collection of patterns in her book.
I recently got into my shop (KISSed Quilts) the beautiful In the Beginning Fabrics - A Poinsettia Winter Collection.
I am working on the Quilt BOM that is from this collection and had these fabrics leftover from the kit (I have one left in my shop).
I selected these greens and reds for the pieced parts and the snowflakes on cream for the background.
I thought I'd share a few extra tips if you decide to make this simple project.
If you want your snowball points to match to your 9-patch piecing, I think your snowball 'green' squares should only be 2 5/8" square.
Nest your seams when constructing the 9-patch block. This then facilitates the ability to 'fan' the seams at the intersections, minimizing the bulk.
When making the snowballs and sewing the corner to corner you could mark the line or use TheAngler2 (seen below but out of print) or a similar product.
The flange is a lovely 'finish' addition to the piece and I like how it is bordered which makes quilting the pieced parts a bit easier. A 'flange' is typically not easy to work with when quilting so I was a bit nervous about that, but it worked out fine with the borders on both sides.

More recent finishes
I had to post about this quilt as I helped the customer find this pattern and adapted it from AlyciaQuilts - QuiltyGirl to fit her wishes. With all the fussy cutting it ended up much harder than she probably thought it would be, but she is persnickity about using those prints and it turned out really nice!
This is adapted from 'Rotation' from Wilmington Prints using Bohemian Dreams 10" mini-stack, cut in half and bordered with 3" cut strips of Toscana-Vanilla fabric. I fussy cut the medallion border and used other coordinating fabric for the backing and the coordinting stripe for the binding. Vogue panto and Vanilla Milkshake YLI thread with 80/20 batting. All is available in the shop. Original Rotation pattern is free when purchasing sufficient fabrics to make this.
